John 15:22 (NIV) – “If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin”
Jesus was talking to 2 groups of people here. First he admonishes his disciples to love one another and to abide in his love. Then he warns of those who chose to hate him. Those who had chosen not to love couldn’t see beyond his physical appearance or where he came from.
It’s the same thing with our generation today. We love the beautiful, the rich, the one who loves us back or does something for us. Yet, we can’t seem to move past ourselves. There always seems to be a “what’s in it for me” kind of clause.
I find this verse amazing because it reminds me of the story of Adam and Eve. Adam’s excuse was “my wife made me do it”. Eve’s excuse was “the Serpent deceived me”. The serpent was the only one without excuse. He didn’t have a reason for disobeying God’s word.
I wonder if we realize when we’re “being spoken to”? Jesus said “If I had not come and spoken to them”.
I also wonder if we know when “we’ve run out of excuses”? Jesus said “NOW they have no excuse”
Can you love just because? 😊
I thought about an excuse not to love a stranger today. I didn’t have any 🤷🏾♀️
Love isn’t about giving something physical (although, sometimes it is). It’s always about giving something ethereal.
But remember! “You can’t give what you don’t have” and that in itself is a conundrum 😊
